Rowe & Williams Gallery was formed in 2016 by Matthew Rowe & Hilary Williams and our gallery opened in 2017. Our gallery brings together our knowledge, love and interest of Modern British & contemporary art and curating exhibitions. We have 5 or 6 exhibitions per year looking at numerous ideas and subject matter i.e. seasons, mark making on the landscape or, looking at a particular media. We focus on artists that lived, worked or were influenced by East Anglia...although we do stretch this a little sometimes!
We are a husband and wife team that have both worked in museums and galleries at national and regional level. Matthew has worked at Tate (based in St. Ives), Arts Council South West and also led Towner, Eastbourne through its' transformational capital project. Hilary worked at the Design Museum, The Crafts Council, Dartington Hall Trust and then led Ditchling Museum of Art & Craft through an award-winning capital project. Most recently, as a museum consultant, Hilary has been working with The Garden Museum & Benton End in relation to their artistic programme for the house when it reopens.
As former museum directors we have both been responsible for important public art collections and we make sure that works are in the best condition when we offer them for sale. We work closely with a paper conservator, a painting conservator and a highly experienced/skilled framer. Where possible we source and use period frames that we have refurbished. We use conservation grade mount and use low reflective/uv filter glass to glaze works.
We hope you enjoy our gallery.
