Morgan attended his local Pontypridd grammar school before gaining a place at Cardiff College of Art in 1942. Whilst exhibiting in a Pontypridd Settlement show in 1943 his work caught the eye of Cedric Morris, one of the judges, who invited the young Morgan to his painting school in Suffolk. After completing his studies at Cardiff in summer 1944, Morgan booked himself a week at Morris’ East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing which was to become a life transforming event. His studies at Camberwell in 1947-8 were unhappy and he repeatedly returned to his true inspiration at Benton End, until Morris died in 1982.
After spending 35 years in Buckinghamshire, Morgan was drawn back to Suffolk in the mid-1990s, settling in the village of Hadleigh - the former home of Cedric Morris' art school.
His work is represented in many public collections including the National Museum of Wales and Colchester and Ipswich Museums.
