Francis Plummer was born in London and studied art and design at Woolwich Polytechnic School before attending the Royal Academy Schools from 1949-54. Here he won the coveted Leverhulme Scholarship, and his work was championed by Sir Stanley Spencer and Sir Herbert Read.
He formed the Shoreham Group with his friend Alan Reynolds and two other students from the RA. He undertook freelance work as a medical, anatomical and technical illustrator and his art work was predominantly based on the human figure in egg tempera. He later made watercolours of the landscape in which trees were depicted in meticulous detail, here in a sparse, angled setting
Francis Plummer lived and worked for many years in coastal Essex near Walton-on-the-Naze.
Exhibitions of his world were held at the Minories, Colchester and the prestigious Leicester Galleries, London.
