Artworks
Ivor Abrahams was born in Wigan and studied at St Martin’s School of Art 1952-3 and sculpture at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts 1954-7. After several years as a display artist he taught at Birmingham, Coventry, Hull and Goldsmith Schools of Art.
In the period 1967-1979 Abrahams focused on garden imagery, exploring the relationship between art, artifice and nature. Many of the images in his prints were based on small poor-quality photographs reproduced in gardening magazines. His use of second-hand source material gives his work a conceptual quality and a link to pop art. Suburban Shrub was based on a photograph of a fir tree in a garden setting of a suburban house.
