In Suburban Shrub (Dawn) and (Dusk), Ivor Abrahams painted over the house, shown in the original photographic source, with black ink to eliminate detail behind the central image.
These two prints were Abraham's first all out exploration of the medium of lithography, produced with the master printmaker and lithographer Alan Cox.
He used two different plates to explore lighter and darker colours and subtitled them to underscore the different qualities of light. The shrub varies from its textured surface in Dawn to the pointillist patterning in Dusk. Whilst the images have a painterly, naturalistic quality, the fall of light is deliberately illogical, adding an air of mystery.
