Laurence Edwards is attracted to the ancient woodland of Staverton Thicks, near Butley Priory. The Thicks comprise a former Royal Forest first recorded in 1268, initially managed through pollarding of the oak trees. It was left to nature for many years, it is now the subject of a restorative conservation project.
This has resulted in a place of wonder and beauty and in certain lights it becomes a surreal dreamlike location. Staverton Vision builds on the imagined trees of Edwards' earlier prints to acknowledge the ability of the Thicks to enter one's subconsciousness. The dark edges create a sense of drama whilst the tapering plate suggests a floating moment for the vision.
